Movie Review: Les Misérables [☝]

I have been hearing about the Les Miserables musical in the past but I never really did pay attention to it. It just began to catch my interest when I got into musicals mode after I saw The Phantom of the Opera musical stage last year.

I'm sure all who have come to love the celebrated musical have gone hyped, like me, ever since it was announced that this masterpiece will be adapted to the big screen. I'm interested on how the story would be directed into film. Also, given with a superstar cast (Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried) the film was sure to become a hit.

I was not really familiar with the plot of Le Miz. I only got to listen to the audio of the musical's 25th anniversary production so most of the songs were already familiar to me when I saw the film. When the Prologue started to be played, I seemed to get goosebumps because the familiar songs finally had visual accompaniment.

Hugh Jackman is the star of the movie and I must say he deserved that Golden Globe Award, as well as every award that he would be receiving in the future. He was amazing. You have to see the movie because words are not enough to give you an idea of how he wonderfully played his role in this film.

It's also a plus that we get to hear the singing voices of the stars the we have come to love for some time. It was my first time to hear all of them sing. I love Seyfried's voice. I know you would also agree if I say that Russel Crowe has the weakest voice of them all.

Le Miz is a touching story of a man who sacrificed his life to save the lives of others thus having been spared his life too in the (long) process. It makes you rethink the reality of poverty and how even a good person will commit crimes in order to survive. It's a narration about rebellion, unrequited love, love at first sight, of heroism, and of selfless love.

The movie made me tear up, especially the ending. x'(
