It took a while for me to get started with this series (because yeah life happened) but I'm so glad I still pushed through with continuing the series. It was a delight to be reunited with the world and the characters that I adored from season 1 and it was a nice escape for me, even just for a few days.
It has been two years since I finished watching the first season so I had to do some refresher on what the happenings were in the previous season. Good thing there was one available on YouTube. It was awesome for me to realize that season 2 kicks off straight from where season 1 left us -- Alina and Mal on to the hunt for the second amplifier that will destroy the fold. Along the way, they meet old and new alliances. Unfortunately, there were old and new enemies as well.
I became a fan of Ben Barnes, the actor that plays the Darkling, since season 1. I now know how jolly and light-hearted his true nature is, so it was kind of challenging for me to see him as the villain again in this season (I'm not sure if that's a compliment or not for him as an actor 😅) but it was very entertaining to see him again. 🥰 For the rest of the characters, some of the actors (with their characters) that grew on me are Patrick Gibson and Freddy Carter.
I'm not sure why but some scenes came to me as cringy and I had to sit myself through those weird battle scenes. As much as I cringed, I also fawned over some of the love teams, most notably Kaz x Inej and Jesper x Wylan. For fleeting moments, they made my heart flutter while watching the series. 💖
The twists in the story were equally shocking and sad (for a non-book reader myself). I cannot help but feel empty as the last episode wrapped up. Just when I thought the energy had started to dwindle down, the ending scene came and proved me wrong. It was dark, disturbing, and intriguing. There are a lot of questions running in my head, so needless to say, I will look forward to the continuation of this saga! I hope they film soon. 🥺
