august - Taylor Swift [♬ ~ #32]

August 15, 2020

Obviously I'm still so into the folklore album, that I have repeatedly tried playing each song from the album by ear on the piano. While doing (another) playthrough of the tracks today, "august" somehow struck me differently this time and I had the urge to seriously sit down on the piano and do something about it. And then also I realized that yes, August is slipping away. It's already half of the month, and by next month it's the start of the -ber months (which means it's Christmas season already here in the Philippines 🎄).

I don't know, everything still feels so crazy and unreal. I think this is the most eerie Christmas that everyone would be having in a while (once is enough please). I don't know, I just try to look at these times on a day-to-day basis, week by week... and I don't really go off doing long-term plans for now. The future has never felt so bleak. I'm already 30 and I still don't know what would happen to me, or where I'll be in the next 5 years. It scares me and makes me feel paranoid. But oh well, I guess I'll have to just focus on the present. I love where I am right now and I am very much grateful that I get to enjoy the things I have today. I don't know until when this would last though (nothing lasts forever, right?) and whatever happens, I just wish to the Universe that I would be emotionally ready and not break down and ruin myself (because I think I'm so emotionally fragile). That's the only wish I have in this life. I know for a fact that the people I love the most would leave me someday, and I just hope that I would be able take things well and I would still have the will to live and to move on with life whatever happens.

Whew. That was heavy. Anyway, now I would like to introduce you to this song I got to record on the piano today. 😅 Mico, one of my colleagues, got to introduce me to the wonderful world of Reaper. I still have not explored most of the features of this DAW (because it overwhelmed me so much that I ended up doing nothing). So, true to this blog's "tag line", let's do things one step at a time. What's the easiest step I could do to produce something out of Reaper? Well I didn't want to over complicate things so I just went with my usual playing on the piano, but this time just letting Reaper record it using a virtual piano instrument (I connected my piano/keyboard to my laptop via a MIDI cable). I didn't want to pressure myself too much so the output is not perfect (😅). But I have to say that this is the cleanest audio I have ever produced(?) in my life. I am thoroughly impressed.

I think this will be a great motivation for me to practice more and to produce more audio content. Let's see where this road would lead me to. 🎹🎶🎧
