Movie Rreview: Jackal is Coming [☝]

August 11, 2013

I know this is a little too late but I only got to see the movie recently. Jackal is Coming stars label mates Song Ji-Hyo and Kim Jaejoong, which worked together for the first time in the movie. It's a comedy/suspense film about a halyu star, Choi Hyun (Jaejoong), who gets kidnapped by an assassin named Bong Min-Jung (Ji-hyo) and the hilarious events that happened in the process.

The Story
I can't really say much about the plot of the movie. For me the story line was a bit superficial. It just did not strike much emotions from me. I've seen that twist in the end in similar movies, so I did not find it very surprising.

The Actors
The main reason I watched the film is because of Jaejoong. I was curious and all on how he did in the movie because I have read several reviews in the past that stated that a very different side of Jaejoong will be seen in the movie. Indeed, it was like that in the film. I have never seen Jae act like that. Well he may be silly whenever he's with Yoochun and Junsu (his other bandmates in JYJ) but I've never seen him make a fool of himself that much like in the movie. Most of the time I find his acting a little irritating, because I think his expressions are not that effective in conveying the emotions of his character. But of course, that effort is well appreciated. xD

On the other hand, this is my first time to see Ji-hyo do serious acting behind the camera. I've mostly watched her only in Running Man, a variety show in Korea. I have to give credit to her acting skills, because she is good. The dramatic changes in her character throughout the movie can be really felt in her expressions and actions. I especially liked the scene below, that part wherein she reminisces her sad past while talking to Jaejoong.

I almost cried during this part. T^T

That statement tugged at my heartstrings. I can wholly relate to this. Music can give you that kind of comfort during times when you feel down. Ji-hyo's effective acting added up to the impact of the scene. This is one of my favorite parts of the movie.

The way the film ended was abrupt for me. It's like I was expecting something more about the relationship between Choi Hyun and Min-Jung but apparently that was it.

Over-all it was a nice movie. This is a must-see film for fans of Jaejoong.

By the way, it touches the topic of sasaeng fans, and surely we can all pick up some lessons from it. :)
